A foreign man was killed on Aug. 7 in a multi-vehicle collision on Hanoi’s Nhat Tan Bridge, which sparked massive traffic jams and drew a heavy police presence during rush hour.
The accident happened at around 4:30 a.m., when the victim, riding a large-displacement motorcycle toward Noi Bai Airport, struck the rear of a truck. He fell onto the roadway and was then hit by a passing car.
Debris from the shattered bike was scattered across a 20-meter stretch of the bridge, and police said preliminary findings show the motorcycle was not in the correct lane.
Traffic police cordoned off the scene to investigate, causing long queues on one of Hanoi’s busiest routes to the airport.
Nhat Tan Bridge, which opened in 2015, is a key link between the capital and Noi Bai, with an 8-lane design allowing speeds up to 90 kph for cars.
