Meta’s Facebook and Instagram appeared to experience intermittent outages on Sunday, with users reporting problems accessing the platforms through both websites and mobile apps.
According to outage-tracking website Downdetector, Facebook users in the United States had filed 4,808 reports by 07:46 GMT, with about 63% saying they were unable to access the website.
In Hanoi, at around 2:30 p.m., Nguyen Hung opened Facebook on his computer to check work messages but was unable to access the platform. He repeatedly received a notification saying, “Your account is currently unavailable due to a site issue,” which initially led him to believe that his account had been locked or hacked.
“I tried logging in several times, but both Facebook and Messenger kept showing errors. It was only when I opened the apps on my phone that I realized my account was still working normally,” he told VnExpress.
Instagram users in the U.S. had submitted 2,829 outage reports by 08:18 GMT, with most complaints related to the mobile app.
Reuters checks also found intermittent access to Facebook and Instagram in Singapore.
Meta did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment sent by email.
